Doechii has fans excited about what's to come in the New Year.
On Thursday, December 26, the Florida native dropped the trailer for "Denial Is A River." The hilarious clip, which is inspired by the '90s sitcom "Family Matters," reveals the all-star cast for her upcoming visuals. The theme song for the iconic show plays while her co-stars Zack Fox, ScHoolboy Q, actor Rickey Thompson, Teezo Touchdown, "Brad Pitt" aka Earl Sweatshirt, H Wood, DJ Miss Milan, Baby Tate, and SiR make comical cameos. Fans are convinced it's a trailer for her "Denial Is A River" music video, however, all will be revealed on January 2.
"Denial Is A River" is a fan favorite from Doechii's recent project Alligator Bites Never Heal. The song is based on a true story about one of her exes. She also said the character in the song is from her first EP, Oh The Places You’ll Go.
"The concept was I was enrolled in some creative school and this teacher took a particular interest in me," she told Rolling Stone in September. "She was coaching me through healing my inner child on that EP. She’s been gone for a while, so I brought that character back because I felt like I needed her to talk through some things now."
Her 19-track album, which dropped back in August, also features songs like "Boom Bap" and "Nissan Altima." The mixtape is revered as one of the greatest rap projects of the year, and its clear that Doechii will continue to promote it in the New Year.
“I literally called my label and I was like, ‘I am going to drop a mixtape on August 30th. This is what my plan is. This is what I want to do,’” she said. “I really only came to that conclusion [in] July. It was out of this new place of clarity and sobriety. I was coming out of a very, very dark place in my career and within myself.”
Look out for Doechii's "Denial Is A River" show coming January 2.
