Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was ruled out for the remainder of his team's Week 16 matchup against the NFC East Division rival Washington Commanders due to a concussion, the Eagles confirmed on their X account.

"Injury Update: QB Jalen Hurts (concussion) is out," the team wrote.

Hurts took a shot to the head while attempting to dive and was taken to the blue medical tent before receiving further evaluation for a potential concussion in the Eagles' locker room, FOX Sports sideline reporter Pam Oliver reported. Philadelphia was leading Washington, 7-0, at the time of Hurts' exit.

Hurts was replaced by backup quarterback Kenny Pickett, who went 3 for 3 for 20 yards and a touchdown pass to A.J. Brown on his first drive, before following it up with an interception, which led to the Commanders scoring their first touchdown to cut their deficit to 14-7.

Hurts entered Sunday's game having thrown for 2,892 yards, 18 touchdowns and five interceptions on 247 of 357 passing, while also recording 589 yards and 14 touchdowns on 147 rushing attempts. The Eagles currently rank second in the NFC playoff ranks with the same 12-2 record as the first-place Detroit Lions.

The Commanders are currently second in the NFC East Division standings, trailing the Eagles by three games prior to their Week 16 matchup.
