Gary Owen and Andrew Schulz have reportedly responded to Kendrick Lamar calling out "white comedians" who talk about Black women in his new album.
Over the weekend, Kendrick sent shockwaves through the music industry, releasing his surprise album GNX.
Fans quickly picked up on a lyric in the album's opening track "wacced out murals," where K-Dot called out white comedians speaking on Black women.
“Don’t let no white comedian talk about no Black woman, that’s law," the rapper said.
Though Kendrick didn't name a specific comedian, Owen and Schulz apparently interpreted the lyric as a direct shot.
Owen, who rose to prominence while touring with Black comedians in the '90s, took to Instagram to share his take on Kendrick's lyrics. The comedian has repeatedly quipped about his Black ex-wife, Kenya Duke, in his sets, remarried a Black woman, and has four Black kids.
“If that’s the law that makes me a criminal,” Owen wrote in response to Kendrick's bar.
Schulz also reportedly responded to the rapper's callout during a conversation with podcaster DJ Akademiks. Earlier this year, Schulz made headlines over his conversation about the "Black girlfriend effect" with "ShxtsNGigs" podcast hosts James Duncan and Fuhad Dawodu.
“They shave their hair because they start losing it from being so stressed, being around this Black girl that’s complaining about s**t all the f**king time,” Schulz said of men who date Black women.
“They grow a beard because there’s more cushion when they get slapped. I think the Black Girlfriend Effect might be a protective instinct,” he added.
Akademiks said he spoke to Schulz about Kendrick's lyrics.
“His reaction was, ‘Is this guy too woke to understand a joke?” Akademiks said of the comedian's response.
Social media users expressed outrage over the comedians' reactions.
"Doubling Down on the disrespect… smh," one Instagram user said.
"Do people think just cause you say something is a joke that immediately clears you of any wrongdoing you said?" an X user questioned.
